After learning of health predictors that make her highly at risk for ovarian and breast cancer, Lisa made the decision to have a preventable double mastectomy. In navigating her choices surrounding this major surgery, she learned how outdated and misogynistic the medical field remains in steering and coercing women to opt for implants, reconstruction, or flap surgery. Lisa learned that the safest option for many is to “go flat,”. Using her skills as a graphic designer and owner of Interrobang Design Lisa started an online community and advocacy project called “Still” to showcase the beauty and power of women who have chosen this option. “Still” has created anthologies, compendiums, and a poster show to help women envision this possibility and provide healthcare providers with resources to offer all options to women facing these difficult choices.
