The Nashville Songwriter Awards took place at the historic Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday (September 24). The ceremony is a celebration of the talented songwriters in the local music community who are recognized by the Nashville Songwriters Association International. Ashley Gorley was named Songwriter of the Year, while Jelly Roll was named Songwriter-Artist of the Year. Cody Johnson’s Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hit single, “The Painter” – written by Benjy Davis, Kat Higgins, and Ryan Larkins – was named Song of the Year. Alan Jackson was presented with the Kris Kristofferson Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes songwriters who significantly contributed to the American songbook while inspiring the careers of others. To honor Jackson during the ceremony, Josh Turner sang “Midnight in Montgomery,” Hailey Whitters performed “Livin’ on Love,” and Lee Ann Womack performed “Here in the Real World.” Songwriter/producer Buddy Cannon was also presented with the NSAI President’s Keystone Award, acknowledging the recipient’s significant contributions for the betterment of all songwriters.
