NBC has ordered a new sitcom pilot from Reba McEntire. The new series will see Reba reunite with showrunner Kevin Abbott, who is set to write the sitcom script.
Abbott was the showrunner for the WB/CW‘s “Reba” for its final five seasons and her previous 18-episode ABC sitcom “Malibu Country.”
In the new series, produced by Universal Television with Michael Hanel, Mindy Schultheis and Julie Abbott, Reba inherits her father’s restaurant but loses much of the thrill on discovering that her new business partner is her previously unheard of half-sister.
The new sitcom marks a reunion for most of the group who previously worked together on McEntire’s signature series for The WB, “Reba,” as well as her follow-up sitcom for ABC, “Malibu Country.”
Hanel and Schultheis were exec producers for the entire run of “Reba,” while Abbott joined after the show’s first year. Hanel and Schultheis also exec produced the full run of “Malibu Country” while Abbott exec produced several episodes as well.
