Selena Gomez will play the role of Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic about the multi-Grammy Award-winning artist.
The two artists recently spent a few hours at Ronstadt’s home discussing the project and getting to know each other, according to music publisher Great Eastern Music.
The film will be jointly produced by James Keach, award-winning producer of the Johnny Cash biopic Walk The Line; as well as Linda’s Grammy-winning documentary, The Sound of My Voice, together with John Boylan, Ronstadt’s manager.
“Development will continue once the current labor disputes have been settled,” Great Eastern Music says.
Ronstadt confirmed the news on her social media accounts on Wednesday. Gomez also shared a photo of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, “Simple Dreams: A Musical Memoir,” on Instagram.
Ronstadt, 77, is a Mexican American singer who performed and recorded in diverse genres including rock, country, light opera, the Great American Songbook, and Latin music. She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award.
